Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Year-End Layoffs Rumored for December, with Management in Focus

There are persistent rumors circulating that another round of layoffs is planned for the end of the calendar year, with planning expected to begin in September. According to these reports, managers will be the primary target this time around.

Urgent Note for Managers:

Prepare now. If these rumors prove accurate, you have limited time to assess your options. Update your resume, strengthen your professional network, and explore opportunities elsewhere before September.

Additionally, reviews will be artificially deflated to encourage voluntary attrition. This appears to be a deliberate strategy to make the work environment increasingly difficult, pushing people to leave on their own terms. Be aware that negative review scores in the coming months may not reflect your actual performance.

If you're a manager, this is especially critical. Document your achievements and contributions now, and don't let artificially low reviews undermine your confidence or your market value as you explore your next move.

@bv it is but it would have been even worse to do it during the primary holiday season of the year. People's last days may fall in November and December but the official notification will have happened 60 days before. Watch for mid October.

I would get used to the impersonal practices. More and more companies are doing it.

@be isn't it bad press to do a layoff via email?

@bs - Throughout my career I was gifted with a lot of managers who had their people's backs...and one who preferred to step on them to reach the next promotion.

Doubtful, most companies do very little in December. It is the end of the year and a lot of people are out of the office using expiring vacation time over the remaining holidays. It is really rare to see a large corporation do a layoff after mid November and even that is kind of late. I would be surprised if anything happens after late October. It is also really bad on a company image to do major layoffs in the middle of holidays. Oracle doesn't need the bad press. With all of the debt it is carrying they need everything to execute smoothly for the next 3-5 years.
