Thread regarding Optum layoffs

RTO in other cities besides MN and DC???

When will other cities start RTO? It's not fair. We're suffering here in MN :( It's been nearly a year since the 4 days/week announcement was made and revoking remote status based on address for MN and DC. They've said they would likely be adding more office locations where 4 days a week will be mandatory however I've heard nothing besides for us stuck in MN and DC.

@196 Correct. Also depending on the state, you will be considered a displaced worker if required to commute more than 50 miles(Minnesota) and could collect UI benefits if your employer terminates you for not doing so.

@c4 soon you will need to choose to relocate to India and find the same job to do it remotely from there. You get what you wish for

@h4 Not true at all. Maybe that was for your division. There was never an office within 60 miles of almost everyone on my team. It was not required when you got hired or required to live by one in my division. We were a remote first company before COVID.

Just learned the next wave is to reduce remote employees who are 29 and 30 significantly.

Pre-COVID, all telecommuters were required to live within 60 miles of an office with telecommuter desks. I suspect it’s a matter of time before SH brings that requirement back.

RTO in other major metro areas already started. San Antonio, TX started in March. There were two other markets at the same time but I don’t remember what they were.

@b6 Several companies with RTO policies like these are full of it. You go in the office to sit alone then be in virtual meetings all day. Ridiculous! It’s also a control thing. Toxic.

RTO is meant to drive attrition so they dont have to go through the process of RIFing more people.
If you need this job your only option is to comply.
If you think you can get another job, stop showing up and make them fire you.
DO NOT QUIT

I mean you chose to live there in a big city. I don’t really feel bad.

It really is the most inefficient and unproductive policy especially when you go in to sit on teams calls. I have no other team members in so they can’t put a blanket RTO policy in place and say it’s for collaboration. It’s about SH ego and control.

You can literally just not go in and dare them to fire you

The WARN act might be a factor. Neither Minnesota or Virginia have strict WARN act laws.
