Thread regarding 3M layoffs

I don't want to be laid off

But I'd rather know now if I'm going to be show the door than wait and stress for months. Just expecting layoffs all the time is making me miserable.

@gt what does ICO stand for?

And why are CBG sales scrambling now? Did something new happen?

Sales in CBG are suddenly scrambling.

I guess you can only pull forward so many times.

I heard the ICO colleagues have received their severance letters. Another team of good people GONE. Thanks for your service

VPs and directors are paid handsomely to deliver the goals. They are always talking about share price during townhalls for a reason. So let them worry about it.

@dr the fantasy of walking out the door and letting all of my projects collapse because my boss doesn't understand what we do (and everyone else is stretched so thin we can't cross-train) is what keeps me going right now.

But it's probably now likely that they lay me off than I leave on my own terms.

Outcome with be the same, though. Nobody knows how to do anyone else's job, and our "leadership" can't be bothered to understand the business at all.

Anyone else job hunting and looking forward to submitting your immediate resignation?

I would recommend to qu1et qu1t whole waiting to be laid off. It is an amazing experience. Trust me as I am doing that for years already.

I know it’s easier said than done, but stop worrying about something you can’t control.

Do your best at work, look after yourself, and focus on the things that are within your control.

If layoffs happen, worrying today won’t change the outcome tomorrow. All it does is rob you of your peace in the meantime.

Prepare if it helps, but don’t let the uncertainty consume you.

@a9 No way....

$400k severance is absurd.

3M only gives a maximum of 26 weeks of severance, meaning that his base salary would be around $800k.

That's not "convince your VP to lay you off with severance," that's "you are the VP."

@ab if I had a new, better job, sure, I'd be out the door in a heartbeat.

But since I don't, I'm stuck here until they lay me off (and then I hopefully get severance).

Leave, leave as soon as you can.
Leave under cover of darkness… in the night, in the dark.

I know of people who are actually wishing to be laid off. One of my ex colleague actually convinced his VP to lay him off and he collected $400,000 in severance. Not a bad deal
