While I have survived tons of RIFs, I have never seen this company or the company I came from when we merged, offer a VSP. I’m tired. I’m sick. I am ready to leave so I applied.

@OP I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Im ready to take it and I'd be happy if they moved the last day up instead of having to wait all the way to Sept. It definitely feels like a waiting game especially during this period of waiting to see if the accepted offer is accepted...

@az and that right there is the issue !!! Many ppl leaders have vendettas against those that speak out and say the truth, while looking for the good of the company and the members but it goes against their agendas since they are mostly clueless on what the real work entails …. If that is the criteria, we are out the door, but I for one will not agree to any severance given as I would want to keep my right to sue and mostly, whistleblow !!! Remember, if we see something, we are in our right and in the taxpayers benefit to whistle against this corporation which may not be in the know of the fraud but WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS HERE DAY IN AND DAY OUT !!! Don’t be afraid !!! We need to rise up !!!
I've really been back and forth on this, but I am leaning heavily on taking it. I don't think I will survive the layoffs, due in large part to my years of employment with Centene and current salary, which was driven by a state with a much higher cost of living compared to my counterparts.
Even if I did, I work a ton of extra hours on salary pay and I am 100% burned out. I don't see how the workload will go down any after the RIF is over and that means those who stay may be in a situation where the work increases tenfold. I can't sustain that.
The severance they offered with VSP is likely a lot less than I will get if laid off, and certainly the COBRA subsidy is. Do I want to risk that on trying to survive the cuts?
I guess for some, including myself, the question is "Can you afford to stay?" I don't know that I can, honestly.
It is a deeply personal decision, and my heart go out to all of us having to make it. Best of luck to all.
I’ve spoken to majority of my team amd most of them have decided to take the VSP. I think people are really tired of uncertainty and all the changes for quite some time and don’t know if the second round of layoffs will give the same amount as the VSP. Even after the hiring freeze, the new positions are still low. Whick tells us that things are not looking good.
PL here and I see so much fear. Centene has always been a fair place and great to employees. I understand no one wants to be RIF but the business cant maintain the employment. No one has time to accept your VSP and then PIP you out. Centene would prefer you tske the VSP rather than having to RIF or PIP. When they PIP you out they usually offer a package anyways if you sign the paperwork agreeing not to sue etc. They are aware they are about to make significant cuts and allowing employees to choose. If you apply your chances are being accepted are high unless the business cannot operate without you or too many people in your area applied. They still have a company to run but need to do it o slimer margins with less people.

@aa I would NEVER give them a reason to put me in a PIP. Ever! Never did. Never will.
If they accept it then I will be professional and work hard the same way I have worked for the last x9 years! I will probably be happier than I currently I am.
@a2 Hey, as a PL I totally understand your concern but we are in the same position as you are, have the same amount of information and ultimately understand that people are checking out which is normal and natural (although not entirely professional) in situations like this. Your PL would need to have some deep seeded vendetta against you for your scenario to unfold. That said, make the best decision for you and your family and don’t worry about what may occur. Sadly, there are so many variables we could all drive ourselves crazy thinking about “what ifs” . Good luck to you 😊
@ad for those of you wondering if your leadership will target you for electing to take the VSP-just remember they, too, are likely in the same position as you.
@aj your answer seems to be of a true leader….. unfortunately, I see there are not many true leaders here as most do not know how to lead let alone do the work or have the knowledge that employees have…. Sad day for all the companies that have been bought out by this greedy company and all for it to go to he-l …. Many of our original CEOs who started these plans and are no longer with us, even including MIchael Neidorff, who was greedy but to a point, are all rolling over multiple times in their graves. Sad day for the good employees and even sadder for the future of the members
As a PL I promise we try to do the best for our teams. I can’t say we’re all like that but I’ve never worked with anyone who actively targets their staff. I’ve worked in leadership for 8 years and I would never do that to anyone on my team.
@aa what i want to know are there going to be any managers who sees this as a reason to retaliate against employees who accepts VSP. “ you dont want to work here? I am going to sc--w you over and reject your VSP, and fire you without any severance”. I have to think that depends on ultimately how much communication the uppers have with your sups?
Based on this language, if you accepted the VSP with an end date of Sept 1 (right before AEP), your manager could PIP you and you'd be fired without the package.
@a4 Exactly, its the most fu---d up way to sc--w your employees who works day and night to keep the company where it is today. I just read a post on linkedin and someone brought up that Centene told their investors insuring risker populations is an advantage while the same story results in a buyout or layoff for employees. Good for investors horrible for us average working citizens.
I’m certain I had an anxiety attack the other night. I couldn’t sleep, my mind was racing and next thing I know my chest was tight and I felt a stabbing pain where the heart is.
I agree that the disclaimers were eh… suspicious. I’m in good standing and I have an amazing relationship with my PL, but f*ck no to accepting the VSP. the fact that the amount could change and so could your last day was enough for me to decline. not to mention after 7 years of service, the package was not enough in my opinion.
since our entire bread and butter is in bed with the government, I suspect we could be bought out. our Medicaid membership is going to be gutted next year.
if we do not get bought out, the workforce will drastically shrink, especially at the health plans. I’m in Corporate, but big cuts will happen there as well.
@a2 Per the language of the VSP, they can make you work extra, deny you the VSP, and kick you out with nothing. If you don't perform, you are out with nothing.
I’m considering, but just a lil bit hesitant because i read somewhere in the FAQ we still have to have good performance until 9/1 or else we dont get the benefits from VSP. Our sups and director need us more than we need them, so i am concerned they will say something to their upper leaderships about us not meeting performance or whatever so we get rejected for VSP. Keeping us keeps their jobs, i hope those in the C-SUITES dont listen to too much input from our sups lol
