I’m a manager in an area that had layoffs this year. Now when you bring up issues, our leaders say we should be quiet and thankful we have a job. Leading through threats is now normal? This place is toxic.

There are no leaders in this company - do you see a visionary individual anywhere, who inspires others and then rewards them for achieving in some form or fashion sincerely. No you do not.
There were people like that here 10 + yrs ago - they are gone. Now there are posers, liars, and people who believe they are all better, smarter etc than others. They have a tight knit group of "friends" who watch each others back but in reality would stab them in the back if needed.
I am not bitter, I am honest. This company has a miserable reputation, in communities they "serve" and by the people who work here or did. I no longer mention to any provider that I work here because then I have to listen to how difficult this company is to work for.
If you can get out you should its not going to get better, time has shown it has gotten worse and will continue. If you can't right now, keep your mouth shut, learn to say "interesting" etc. Nod and smile when on camera, meet standards cash your check and have a good weekend.
I have 87 days until retirement. Been here 19 yrs and I know I will not be missed. No one is.
@vf well I kept my head down and my mouth shut - guess what, I got counseled for lack of participation and engagement with leadership.
So guess what the correct answer is ...yes that sounds like a good idea - put that into AI and ask for 100 different ways to say that - print it and get a highlighter - rinse and repeat when you get to the bottom of the list.
Dam if you do...dam if you don't
When you complain, you put a target on your head. Your managers are telling you to be quiet because they’re trying to preserve your position and theirs. Not you.necc. But your position. In the next riff if you’re a big complainer you’ll be let go. Your job will not be filled. It’s not a leadership mentality. It’s trying to preserve as much as possible in impossible circumstances. Look at the Medicaid market right now. Very unstable. If I worked in that market I’d be very nervous, keeping my head down and my mouth closed… unless you want to be riffed. In which case-let ‘em have it -but not so much you’re insubordinate.
It’s time to lean in (an annoying and overused management buzzword that simply means “work harder, you drone!”)
@fb they love to know who is spilling the tea. This place reeks - even if they knew anything - these Directors will stare you straight to your face and claim they have no information - it's their playbook
I’m not sure what leadership has been told when it comes to employees bringing up the subject of RIFs or asking questions however i’ve been in separate meetings with separate leaders and when we’ve had a team or a group meeting and somebody asked about layoffs or if we were safe or what the status was both leaders indicated they had no news and they would keep us updated and if anybody’s spreading rumors to let them know. And if anybody asked a question again or that they heard something about a layoff the leader wanted to know who they heard it from and who’s spreading rumors. It seem to be more about keeping everything quiet than keeping us informed.
@OP sorry to say your "leaders" are anything but that - Directors here are micromanagers who take endless PTO upon return go back to mirco managing people who in many cases have a higher skill set then they do. I left 5 months ago, and it was the best decision I ever made for my mental health. They breed toxicity. I was told to shut up about issues one too many times.
Lots of threats going around nowadays. Check out this post and the responses to it. Everyone has to keep their mouths shut and try to run under the radar these days. And that leadership mentality is just taking the company down faster. Post ID: @OP+1ksfsm91x
