Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

5 day in office? On one condition.

Move all VP and "Senior" directors to sit in the middle of our open table plan office.
I will be at work the same hours you are. Zero office door policy.
No i do not buy "people managers need offices"
You managed for YEARS working from portable laptops.
Get a conference room.
Even better.. find your way to the lab and sit there.

I sit in the open with my team. I am not above them, I am one of them. Wish all leaders acted the same.

None of the Clearwater mgrs sit in open. Of course Clearwater is a circa 1958 asbestos and mold saturated dump decorated in 1980s earthtones (orange is in!) — even after 10mil in renovations they only managed to “fix” one floor, in one of the five buildings.

Senior directors are already sitting in the open floor plan. Only the ALT (at least in Phoenix) will be remaining in their fourth floor kingdom.

It'll be option 1 with little notice but a half baked q&a for the poor sods who have to deliver the message to address any 'concerns'. (Europe a little trickier to deliver this but doable)
Zzzzz

the bonus is of course that you get headcount 'voluntarily' reducing saving a bit of rifs later as HW navigates those tricky economic headwinds

It's coming, but not me tho! Very heavy bonus to go elsewhere. Good engrs in short supply. Work hard? Can set your own path.

I dont ever see #4 being an option, no-one in this modern society is going to fall for that, maybe someone, such as a gig worker, or desperate for work, to get a check for a while, and has nothing to lose may do it and good for them, but they won't be long term. I think honeyhell has some sort of planned obsoleteness when it comes to workers.

I see four possible scenarios:

  1. Full return to office is announced. Managers get no warning. Chaos.
  2. Hybrid is made permanent but 40% footprint reduction is mandated. engineering heavy sites hit hardest with large property sales.
  3. Wait and hope for a deep recession and change in labor demand to solve issue.
  4. Offer full remote as a benefit you "buy" with a 20-50% pay adjustment ( calculated on pay stub.. and shown as deduction) the cost is dependent on distance from a hub office. must "reapply" each year so no promotions either. If this sounds like contractors for everything... welcome to the gig economy

I left this past year, I dont foresee anything good changing. I'm not sure what it would take to make Honeyh3ll get with the times. I have current employees reaching out to me if I can recommend them elsewhere, even for a minor paycut.

5 days in the office, thats going to be a hard sell. even the strict badge monitoring, facial rec. of the 3/2 hybrid was bad enough.

The younger engr demographic in India makes it tougher for companies to retain people, who switch jobs easily as there are plenty
Our aging demographic drive lots to remain in place, not willing to start over
Anyone think this place will improve?
Have it improved in the last 10 years?

has this been communicated out to employees? which regions? US only? apparently India and EU have been hard to enforce RTO.

I have no conditions. No hybrid = Straw that broke the camel’s back (i.e. I’m out.
