Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Good luck to everyone next week

Whatever happens, don't blame yourselves. This isn't about you. It's about greed and poor leadership.

@fk Not enough, though. Nepotism is practiced much more the higher you go up. Plenty of middle managers who don't understand the work of their direct reports. Plenty of leaders who can't type a coherent English sentence unassisted. All because people promote their friends, family, or someone of the same race/gender. Instead of someone who is good.

I think being mentally prepared for layoffs does help. I was better prepared and ready to act when I got the notice. Unless you’re ready to retire, there’s no downtime between getting the notice and preparing to apply for the next job. Have your résumé ready, and even if you don’t think you’ll be impacted, start looking into the top employers in your area. No matter how much you love or hate your job at Optum, you are expendable and replaceable.

Being single and laid-off is the worst. No incoming coming in, no healthcare, no vision plan, no dental plan, etc.

It's too bad leadership never gets to bear the brunt of the consequences. They're practically immune. They make bad choices, and we pay.
