Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Race to the Bottom

Why hire "expensive" experts from the west when an Indian or Bangladeshi will do the same job for 90% less. Quality of work isn't a variable in this discussion.

With the advent of AI the locals's Powerpoint skills are becoming redundant.

There is no one left here that is capable of working a real job in a real world save a few field hands. Even the half decent to good arabs have moved on at the first opportunity. Those expats and locals that might be of avg intelligence and decent work ethic are riding out both the realization that any contribution fuels the House approved genocide…and our own selfish retirement. I know this steak doesn’t exist. Selfishness reigns in the endless miles of cramped cubicles. Top down. Especially at the top. Learn early. Regret comes next I suppose. Wasted Years.

you don't need quality at Aramco. now with AI, all the presentation can be generated without human. we can get rid of most of the people

"Quality of work isn't a variable in this discussion."

The sad fact is that most of the real work is done by contractors, consultants, etc. Aramco departments mostly just spy on each other and generate reports that aren't used by management because Riyadh is making all the decisions anyway. HR should just call up the Screen Actors Guild and say "I need three extras for an upcoming MC meeting", and use AI to create some meaningless slides. Nobody would notice any difference because its all just a stage and the show would go on.

@ys I can see that. It's tough trying to maintain a decent attitude under those circumstances. The monthly apology didn't cover it. Fair.

Seems to me that is primarily what is and has been taking place for quite some time now. In addition, they have been pumping out young professionals from universities all over the world. You can't really blame them. We would most likely do the same. Provide jobs for the population and pay them considerably less. Hire just a smattering of western expats for some knowledge transfer. Safety, quality, output, work ethic all suffers, but so what?
