Yes, you’re still competing with co-workers and people on your team. Why else do you think every area is going through this “how we work” phase, especially in the bank. If numerous people on your team are doing the same type of work, then someone is going to get cut. My area, we had to submit ours last September, the cuts came on January 28th. I was one of the ones cut, when I asked the ED what was the reasoning, she said it wasn’t her decision, that it came from high up in HR with recommendations from 3rd party consultants, but also said the “how we work” if our work matched others on the team, then that probably played a role in who got cut, they cut the person with the higher salary.
Thankfully, I was able to land another internal role, but I learned my lesson. I’m making sure my leader knows every little thing I do, and I’m not sharing work with anyone.
We are the only bank and insurance company not making fist fulls of cash right now and our only source of income is firing people. That’s how we are doing.
