Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How the he-l does it actually go down???

Can someone explain how these layoffs actually get determined? I feel like it’s just purely cost, but based on how pointless and anti productive it has ended up being I’m not sure if they actually give it any thought. Manager has been giving us the standard BS. (Saying a lot without actually saying anything) lol.

@j8Good thing intelligence isn’t measured by your opinion. You certainly sound far from anything close to smart!

@h6 absolutely incorrect. A lot of hidden information in that earnings call is like trying to find Waldo in an image of a 1000 people.

Don't ask the question until you listen to earnings. If you did listen and still don't know, you should be fired for incompetence.

I can tell you OP the next LR in August is targeting folks not using AI! 🤖. That’s the focus for the next LR! Yes this came from the top down! What our CEO did not mention was the total number of folks he’s letting that will be included on August. But hey, at least you’ll get to enjoy your 4th of July off if you celebrate it!

It's always been beauty contest..... It was so when they started this process in 2008. I watched so much engineering talent and intellectual property get walked out the door. Charlie G would talk about how "old" the workforce was getting. Of course they all got great jobs at growth companies and made more money than they would have at Cisco.

Quotas are sent by ELT, say for 20%. Directors and above get the list prepared, and submit to HR for approval. It’s mostly based on age and total compensation as they’re trying to lower expenses. It’s simply a numbers game.

I noticed my manager acting weird in our 1:1 a few weeks back, but I didn’t think much of it at the time, so my LR came as a surprise.

It’s entirely, 100% ad hoc and subjective.

Everyone is a line item not a human person. AI is deciding your future at Cisco. There is a team in Frans org that write the prompt to make your employee number pop up. That’s how decisions of who stays and who goes are made.

AI can probably forecast when your employee number will come up so you can plan.

Your boss probably does not know the full story(unless He/She/It is SrDIR/VP). Its usually internal politics and your total compensation (esp RSUs).
