Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

First job nightmare

I just started my career at Nike and I think I made a huge mistake joining. My manager is impossible. Every week he either ki-ls our ideas, adds random nonsense to our projects, or just criticizes for no reason depending on his mood. He doesn't understand the technical work but tells us how to do it anyway. Then later he asks why we did it that way. He interrupts everyone constantly and yells at least three days a week. I'm so tired. Is this the norm when it comes to managers here?

@f4 JM & SB could probably just share that office but they both have such inflated egos that the office may not be big enough.

@OP+1krkvptjj So sorry for your experience. Be as strategic as you can, always think about how you will represent each experience at Nike on your resume, and definitely continue your learning and skill expansion outside of work. (Certs, portfolio pieces, etc... ) Work toward how you will position yourself in the market for your next role. Think about who in your group or partner teams you can use as a reference for your next role. Managers at Nike are terrible.

Go work with JM. He’s as toxic as they come! He and SB sit in his corner office at VJ with his frosted glass watching everyone that comes and goes. People use different doors just to come and go to avoid the fact that they “might” be seen going to lunch with someone that they don’t like. People drive in and out of the parking lots a different way for the same reason. If you are spotted you will have a target on your back. It’s like Santa and his elf watching. Not toxic at all.

Leave ASAP. It doesn't get better. At others have mentioned such managers thrive at Nike.

Just from your description, I can already think of at least five managers in my department at EHQ who fit that pattern

I think the job interview questions for the manager role these days are:

  1. Are you a sociopath?
  2. Can you run your team into the ground?
  3. Are you able to twist people's perceptions, lie to their faces, and take their voices away?
  4. Are you an expert at creating illusions to dangling the carrot in front of your employees?
    Yes?! bo-m, you're hired!

JFC this is exactly how my manager is. She’s completely mental. How do these people get promoted into these positions?

Mentally ill but will not be held accountable. Will gaslight until team he/she is managing also develops a mental illness. That's normal management in America now days.

no point. Good luck with it all! Nike rewards management that abuses and take advantage of their employees. the more they abuse, minimize you, steal your ideas, and the more complains they have on them, the higher they get rewarded and promoted. just get out as fast as you can. my only advice. Nike is super toxic. It will take you years of therapy to heal the trauma caused by working in such a toxic environment as the one at Nike.

Depending on the team you are on many managers have manic personalities, like to prove their value. You should turn the manager in. If you work in a product creative space most of the managers and dirwctors are nuts and work you to the bone. Always read the reviews before you commit.

@a2

When he says just started his career at Nike that could even mean like 6 months ago, not two weeks ago.
