Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Today would have been my 25 yr anniversary...

but I got surplused two years ago. Just came back to check in to see how things are going with everyone. Sounds about the same. It was rough going out there for awhile. The job market is so bad, I applied to over 1000 jobs and it took me 16 months to land a job and it was an indefinite contract job which I'm still in with hopefully FT soon. While the layoff/unemployment/job search process was a nightmare and really did a number on my mental health, some good did come out of it. We were able to pay off every ounce of our debt with the severance. We found an awesome financial advisor and rolled my pension and 401k over and he's made us a ton of money since then, much more than I would have made where it was sitting. It does su-k not knowing if/when this job could end but I'm making $40k more than I was at AT&T and doing much more interesting and meaningful work than I was. The company I'm at now is a billion dollar global manufacturing company and they have their sh-t together so much better than AT&T, it's like night and day seeing what it's like working somewhere that actually cares about their employees. Best of luck to all of you out there. It was hard to lose my job but ultimately I think it was a good thing for sure.

I make pretty good money for about two hours of work a day. Why would I go elsewhere?

I'd rather sit here and get paid to do nothing.

People who come back saying they found greener grass never give the name of the great company that’s perfect for T alum. Are you Finance, HR, OSPE, IT, technician? It makes a difference.

I came back after what would’ve been a 25-year anniversary to check on people I worked with for decades

Nice try troll.

We're all anonymous here.

You check on people you've worked with for decades by contacting them directly or a social media group you've all joined.

Some of you seem really angry that getting laid off ended up improving my life. I came back after what would’ve been a 25-year anniversary to check on people I worked with for decades, not to get approval from anonymous little pr--k keyboard warriors that get off on being a--holes online.

The funniest part is the mocking me for applying to 1000 jobs while proudly bragging you’re “milking” a company that’s been laying people off for years. One of us moved on to a better-paying job at a better-run company, and so many of you are still here rage-posting in defense of AT&T like you are Stankey’s own personal di-k su---r. Sounds like you may have something stuck in your throats there. Is it jealousy or something else? Hmmm

Anyway, best of luck to the people still there actually trying to improve your situation. Life is better on the outside.

You had it good here at AT&T. So good that you gotta come here even after getting a so-called better job.

“ I truly feel sorry for you“

As you furiously clear your cache and downvote my post multiple times.

Don’t feel sorry for me. Go apply to 5000 more jobs blindly with your crayon resume.

“ You don't even know what my job was there or the viability of my field.“

True.

But I do know that whatever your job was, you weren’t good at it.

I know this because you’re no longer employed here. And you’re here on this site in the middle of the workday. And you don’t have the skill set or wherewithal to understand the current job market, blindly applying and then lamenting your lack of success.

@a8 You have no clue what you are talking about and your comments mean nothing. I know my process and what I did so say what you want. You don't even know what my job was there or the viability of my field. You literally don't know what you are talking about so go ahead and keep talking.

“ I applied to over 1000 jobs…”

The number one indicator of someone that is clueless as to how to land a job.

Yes, the job market is tough. You will have no success with your approach of blindly applying.

Do you have absolutely no personal network you built up over your 23 years at T ? Never mind, I already know the answer.

Thank you for your service and leaving the business, we grew very tired of hearing “we used to do things like this” and working at a snails pace. Enjoy your diaper changing and the activities at the home. Bless.
