And cripple teams in the process? You can only spread so much work across so few people, especially when specific roles require specific skills. It's pretty clear that efficiency and morale aren't even on the list when they're making these decisions.

If you’re a better employee than your manager, that’s when you’re up to be laid off. Managers know they aren’t worth sh-t and that’s how they keep their jobs, cut the competition
Performance has never been a factor in determining who to let go. If anything, being a high performer earning raises and promotions puts a target on his/her back.
