Thread regarding Ford layoffs

AI + H1B + No Work

Part of IT Marketing & Sales. We just have way too many people doing nothing. Everyone just acts they are super busy but there is no real work. All of our code is written by AI now and everyone on my team is H1B. If GM was able to layoff 500-600 people then we could probably do some clean up across Ford. Design, Development, Testing is all driven by AI and yet I don't understand why we are hiring like it is 2018. One of the best engineer on our team left recently and we are operating in chaos. Leadership thinks they are right and do not listen to team members. Its pure CHAOS!!!

All new hires per Mike Amends have to be hired in India as much as possible.

@ht oh wow, that sounds terrible, they may have to go home, well let’s just lay off some Americans to make room.

Yes much fear in the office as layoffs will be a hardship for the sea of Ford Dearborn IT hoping to obtain citizenship. Many are have been looking for a long time even in Canada. The job market in India for IT is also not good. The day of body shopping IT workers is over. Now you need deep knowledge and skill to succeed and Ford has few of those workers by design. Nearly all are shallow generalists.

@f7 Mentioning Verstappen in meetings always sparks immediate interest and drives the conversation forward.

Go to racing. No rules, just say you are doing stuff to go faster. Seems to work.

IT and software gigs are toast the world over. Wayyy too much supply for the demand.

The sad part is they will look for ways to keep the h1bs safe and lay off more Americans and Michigan residents

Ford can easily outsource the remaining IT needs. There is no reason for them to have an on-site footprint other than in the plant for break/fix. The new data centers are underutilized and built out as over-capacitized. Might as well sell them off. The field of IT is a dead-end everywhere and especially at Ford.

@OP I am sure you are actively looking for a position outside like me but this is the same story across Ford IT. If you are in your 20's, 30's or 40's please make a move immediately. Ford is not sustainable in long run. The world is changing fast with AI and it is practically impossible for Ford to catch up.
