Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Odds we'll be acquired by year end?

And who would have the means and motive?

@ak why would they? We already provide access to their services for peanuts while they make insane amounts on AI.

0% chance.

We have way too much debt. We are not a sinking ship as people say. Our financials are solid, our only true threat is spacex.

We are already India Wireless, but I don't think Tata would be willing to deal with the US politics to buy this sinking ship. What I do believe is that the goal is to cut this down to the point where Jeff Bezos adds it to his Starlink challenger LEO network. Jeff has been su-king up to the current Federal government for a reason, and getting approval for adding a wireless network to his empire might look smart to them.
Everything about how Dan and his minions are slashing this company to death feels like "getting ready for the fire sale". At this point the cuts in IT will have significant impact on the companies ability to function longer term.
A sale appears to be the exit strategy (and it solves the problem that the stock needs to hit 80 in order for Dan clear an extra $150M). If they were expecting to have to run this pile of AI longer term, they'd act differently.

A regional divestiture (East vs. West) is the most viable path for VZW. Given the high debt-to-value ratio, a total acquisition is unrealistic for most buyers. Breaking the asset into smaller, regional 'bites' makes the deal significantly more digestible.

@ew You're close. We'll likely see Vz and TMO merge with one each of the cable companies. One high debt industry merging with another.

My prediction... vz history is merge with second tier type companies like GTE and MCI. My guess Spectrum.... new CEO Nick Jefferies.... after Dan leaves. Give it 2 years. Comcast, AT&T, TMobile, Altice will all consolidate at Tier 1 level.

Who in their right mind would buy this sinking ship? Talent is gone, innovation is gone, and we are a distant third—expensive, lacking customer service, and offering nothing distinctive.
Verizon will destroy itself from within rather than be sold to someone else. Don’t kid yourself—we are all on borrowed time. Whether it’s one year, two, or three, this ship is sinking slowly.

Zero

Debt, pension obligations and highly capital intensive network from spectrum to plant = no way

China telecom? Why in the he-l would the US government let a communist owned enterprise buy the largest telco in the US? What is your IQ???

And any purchase would have to be at least a 50% premium - so a 300B offer would need to be in the cards..an offer only a handful of companies can make aka Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft etc…

China telecom...as this is already a crazy idea and they have money to burn backed by Chinese government. Perfect way to find all strategic locations and access to all data centers and govenment servers...:::

In reality, Google may be interested in fiber side of the house like fMCI side and they have been hiring from fMCI side already. but this is also a very crazy idea.

Tmobile or ATT are the only one who may be interested in...but you have to question for why.....and I don't see a reason

FAANG wont be interested, they are doing fine on their own, unless/until they decide they wanna get into Telco services for whatever reason I can't foresee.
