You can complain about H1B programs all you want, but from a corporate perspective they solve several very important business problems:

  1. They help address the ongoing issue of Americans expecting competitive wages, work-life balance, and the freedom to leave for better opportunities.
  2. H1B employees often accept compensation below what the domestic market would otherwise demand, helping maintain labor cost discipline and improve margins.
  3. They provide a dependable workforce with far lower turnover risk, since visa status is directly tied to continued employment.
  4. They allow companies to demonstrate a strong commitment to “global diversity,” sometimes by concentrating hiring pipelines so efficiently that entire departments can share the same background, language, and recruiting network.
  5. Most importantly, they create a labor structure where employees are encouraged to remain compliant, grateful, and highly motivated to avoid disrupting sponsorship arrangements.

From a shareholder standpoint, it’s actually a remarkably efficient system.

@n3 I think Biden was declared a vegetable by the USDA by the time he took office.

@am Remember when trump said he would significantly reduce these types of workers replacing US citizens ….? That is until Musk and others said they need them to keep their costs down. Suspect you voted for him so just a friendly reminder you did not get what you thought you bought.

@ch it is not a corrupt organization. It is the organization you CHOSE to work for and you do not like some of those terms of employment at this point. Don’t love the turns particularly since Hackett and Farley - the company became very un and almost anti ford under them. That said, take responsibility for your choices AND don’t wish for the loss of tens upon tens of thousands of jobs because you don’t like the choice you made

I’m Canadian, and I can tell you firsthand that getting hired in the US without a green card or citizenship is close to impossible in many cases.

Meanwhile, defense companies are hiring aggressively right now. Just follow the geopolitical trend, the direction is pretty clear. Advanced systems, autonomy, aerospace, and defense are where a lot of demand is heading.
People can complain about the market, or adapt to where the opportunities are going. Are you a future soldier or missile engineer ??? You choose. Capitalists

Does anyone know if you can give two weeks notice and then take two weeks or more of vacation? Perhaps announce a quit while on vacation?
