Relocation to Dallas

I am supposed to report to the Dallas HQ in October this year. Is it okay to move schools starting October 1 or is it recommended to move before schools start by August 1? I wanted to buy time for obvious reasons.

Every single person that move to california some time back has been layed off. I would uproot your family for this company. Remember this T still needs to drop another 50K employees.....

You are a fool if you move for the company. I personally know 3 people that were in my org that moved 3 years ago and were then let go. The whole reason they are "asking"/telling you to relocate is because they want you gone. If you actually follow through, they'll still let you go. You can probably go back and search this board and just google how many times it has happened. Do NOT uproot your life and move your family for this company, you'll regret it and will be in much worse shape. Just tell them no and let them fire you if need be and get that severance. Get your resume up to date now and start looking early.

If you pay for your relo and sell your home there is a good chance you’ll be let go in two years, then you’re stuck!! Research the job market in Dallas before you move!

Why don’t you call the potential school and ask? It’s not rocket science. Your problem solving abilities are amazing.

No. you can't. Its illegal to start school in Dallas on Oct 1st.

Why dont you call the school district where you plan on moving too and ask them the best process. Your problem solving abilities are non-existent.

Depending on what school system you're coming from, your kids may be able to skip a grade in Texas.

Take the hint. They would not ask you to move if they wanted you to stay on the payroll. You will be gone in Dallas by 2028.

"destroying your kids' lives"... not that's dramatic. What a softie!

I wouldn't move in the first place for this company.

That said, my parents moved twice while I was in mid year in school. It wasn't the big deal some make it out to be. We weren't military, they move even more often. My wife is an elementary teacher near Northeast Navy and Army bases, kids seem to adapt pretty quickly if the parents frame it well.

Be careful and consider your commute to Plano in two years!

Apply at Verizon or T Mobile. According to the experts on this forum, those companies will gladly offer you WFM.

If I were you, I would just rent an apartment and commute. Why risk uprooting your family and destroying your kids’ lives for a job that may not last?

I relocated two years ago. You should really get the kids settled and in place before the school year starts! This will make the transition much easier than having them start over a month in. Welcome to Dallas!!
