Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

We can't even trust offers anymore

How the he-l are we supposed to leave Oracle if companies are rescinding offers a day before people are supposed to start? Someone posted about accepting a role back in February. He did the paperwork, got the start date, told his family, gave his notice and then they rescinded it eight days later. No explanation, just sorry. How is anyone supposed to plan their life when this can happen?

@ac I agree with you - I am looking at smaller companies. They are excited about the availability of seasoned resources and are not undercutting salaries! There is a wind fall of business coming their way from clients who find themselves left holding the bag and need help. Example - my project was left without ANY project management and their Oracle support was eliminated. They were forced to contract with third party to finish the project and receive ongoing support.

Hiring of experienced resources is also enabling smaller companies to hit the ground running, and fill their stables of highly skilled resources. They save money and ramo up time to upskill resources. Better yet - they are EXCITED to have us….

@am if that is the best answer you can come up with you probably will be unemployed. Questions like that are the only slow pitched softballs you will get in an interview.

@b6 how much do you spend on lawyers? People like you who tell everyone to sue have no clue. It is expensive and time consuming. An as an added bonus the legal actions are public records so when you do finally get close to landing your next job it will show up in your background check. All of a sudden you won't be getting any offers.

@b5 that's not how laws work
they withdrew a signed offer before his start date, it's blatantly illegal
he should sue, and get like 2-year salary compensation easy

@OP - A company rescinding a job offer to you a day before your start date is no different than if you rescinded coming to a job a day before your start date. And not only that, as a new employee you are on probation for 90 days after starting the new job. During that probation you can be legally terminated for any reason.

In summary, kid - Grow up!

Time to pursue a different career path perhaps? The bloom on the tech rose is long gone so either accept that or dedicate your efforts to a bigger pivot.

@ac "The world is changing fast"

Are job hunters still asked "where do you see yourself in 5 years?"

Other than "unemployed". what else can one say?

There are only 2 guarantees in life, taxes and death. You will probably still get taxed after death... life is hard, no one gets out of it alive.

Shorten the time frame for your plans. The world is changing fast so expect set backs. Most people will need to reset their expectation of spending and consuming in excess. Stop buying stuff on credit unless you pay it off every month and cancel subscriptions. Buy what you need instead of everything you want. Times are tough but they will likely get far worse. You really want to get to a point where you don't owe anything except what you use every month. Save, save, save, and that doesn't just mean money. Go to work for smaller companies since they are less likely to be able to spend money on AI or see much benefit from it.
