Thread regarding IBM layoffs

May IBM CEO Office Hours

I had to laugh while watching the latest IBM CEO Office hours (May edition). At minute 9:30, the topic is "Internal support efficiency"... Question about the internal support automation... think askHR, askIT, askSales, etc... Arvind said the services su-k... he tried to ask askHR what his vacation policy and the answer from the system was: "I could not retrieve that answer"!! Lol!

This is a great example on how IBM uses AI internally... useless.

@za Repeatedly posting pro-IBM AI-generated drivel is lazy. But maybe all that hair on your palms makes it hard to type. You gotta lay off those badges...

The result of having monkeys design and produce these tools.
I did deal with Indians before, full of Hot Air and bullsh-t.

@za

oh? Arvind himself complained about how bad these tools are. Was he being lazy? Was he "IBM bashing"?

AskIT and AskIBM both have NPS scores worse than -50. This is worse than the score you'd give a root canal.

And AskHR is so bad it can't figure out the difference between sick days and vacation days. HR tools that cannot understand basis HR concepts - that's rich. Arvind called this POS out too.

AskSales was designed by Indian teams to meet their low standards and not surprisingly the US sales team just avoids it. Terrible. The sellers tell me they prefer third party tools because AskSales doesn't meet their needs. As in any third party tool.

The above were all built using IBM AI tech. They are trash. No wonder IBM has had to rebrand Anthropic's Claude as "Bob" - IBM cannot deliver a single AI on its own that isn't useless. But that is what you get when you have useless people like Fourie building these tools. You get what you pay for.

@yz
IBM is a 100-plus-year company operating in enterprise technology, hybrid cloud, AI, consulting, regulated industries, and mission-critical infrastructure. Reducing all of that to drive-by insults about Arvind or one internal team is not serious analysis. It is grievance posting.

If someone has a real critique of AskIT, AskIBM, AskSales, or any AI rollout, then bring specifics, metrics, adoption data, client impact, and a better solution. Otherwise, it is just throwing rocks from the cheap seats while the people actually responsible for enterprise-scale transformation are doing the hard work in public.

Criticism is fine. Lazy IBM-bashing dressed up as insight is not.

How is that Matt Loathsome's team - consisting of Jill Fourie and her direct reports - consistently deliver some of the worse AI on earth - AskIT, AskIBM and AskSales - yet are consistently passed over when it comes time to cull the herd?

Even Arvind reported how bad these solutions are yet they all have total job security? Why???

@q2 And you are a corporate shill who uses AI generated bullsh-t pretending to be a motivated employee. Why don't you take all your cr-p and shove it back up your a-s. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for coming to this LAYOFF site defending the "hard choices" the execs have to make. Boo fu--ing hoo. Try getting laid off for no good reason and having to secure money, insurance, a new job, etc. all with a layoff skeleton in closet. Until you've done that, and your time will come, STFU. I mean really, SHUT THE FU-K UP!

That’s not an argument, it’s a slogan. IBM’s executive team is making hard choices in a highly competitive market where legacy companies either modernize or fade. You can disagree with specific decisions, but “they su-k” does not explain strategy, margins, cloud, AI, consulting, infrastructure, or long-term competitiveness. It’s emotion pretending to be analysis.

@OP CLIENT ZERO = ZERO CLIENT

No self respecting customers or clients will touch IBM's junk products and tools because there are plenty of better ones out on the market. The IBM CIO is the only bunch of lunatics who would do this, to show that they eat their own dog food. No wonder things go from bad to worse. ZERO COMMON SENSE.

@cq when Indian developers create garbage products like AskHR, AskIBM, AskIT etc, they blame it on resource cuts and under-investment. But...you get what you pay for. When Arvind and Krabanaugh insist on paying peanuts, all they can hire is a bunch of incompetent monkeys.

@d7 with Matt you have to understand that the lights are on, but no one is home. He makes up for that by acting like a charging bull in a China shop during presentations.

And yes, he is Loathsome indeed.

@cq lol - "next release". That was always the standard response to fixing these terrible products - the next release is going to ki-l it! Another hype cycle.

So how would you even know if AskIBM was "better"? Your NPS is -50 but Matt Loathsome doesn't like metrics that make him look bad so let's pretend that isn't the worst score ever. Maybe require everyone to do 10% more AI and then report that 10% up tick in output as "success"?

The problem isn't just the tech - you have the wrong people working on it. They think every problem can be solved with better tech and for those that can't, best to ignore those. The days of research, reflect and fix are over when you can just pretend that a future release will magically fix the problems everyone is ignoring. "Trust me bro!"

Fire them all.

AskIBM is garbage, "a lot" better means, it is still garbage.
When, useless and mediocre people are responsible of these garbage are not fired, you have the current miserable and stupid IBM.
The mediocrity starts from the top with the stupid Indian id--t at the top.

AskIBM has an upcoming refresh that’s a lot better. AskIT has hardly anybody working on it because, of course, the team got repeatedly cut. It’s not that the people aren’t good, it’s the total underinvestment in this stuff. They pretty much took the savings before it delivered what was needed.

Anyone working on AskIT or AskIBM should be fired. Useless products by useless people. AskHR doesn't even know the difference between vacation days and sick time. Just trash.

@OP if IBM wanted to fix anything they would fire Joanne the Walrus and her F&O leaders (including CIO) who are nothing but a bunch of whiny A$$ ki$$ers. They are a total waste of time and will continue to go nowhere....while collecting big paychecks for sitting around. And someone should get rid of their leader Krabanaugh too - how many badges did he earn this year and what did he get upskilled in ? Eating more unhealthy burgers and fries ?

To evaluate the quality of IBM flavor of AI, I once asked it a question about an IBM product that I was reading its documentation. The answer from askIT was complete garbage. From that day, I didn’t use any of IBM internal AI sh-t.
