Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I’d rather get laid off than be put on a PIP

One of my teammates is on one right now, and he knows he’s as good as gone, with nothing to show for it. At least with a layoff, you get severance.

@dp

Hard lesson for other people to learn from.

Moral of the story is to consult an employment lawyer. It may cost you a few bucks but it may save a ton of bucks.

@b2 I was illegally placed on a PiP and my manager knew it, they offered me severance instantly, or take the PiP in which I only have 4 weeks to improve....all of it seemed wrong and in hindsight I should have involved an employment lawyer to negotiate a better severance for their illegal move. I was so fed up and unhappy with DELL I just accepted the severance and left the next day never to look back. I know its tough over there and I pray for everyone still there, get out while you can, he-l even UBER makes more money then those greedy pigs.

@b2 Or find ways to game the system so your KPIs increase to whatever arbitrary nd likely unrealistic goal they have set. I've survived 2 PIPs this way.

'Use those months to get paid and just show up'

bad advice. always better to take the severance and leave asap. PIPs are soul draining and humiliating. The fact you have to be a willing participant in it is insult to injury.

I mean sure but, PIP's are usually 3-6 months and they are NOT designed to "help" you suceed. They are designed to force you to quit, and/or give HR a reason to fire you when you inevitebly fail it.

Use those months to get paid and just "show up" to work and do nothing but look for new jobs. Do the absolute minimum of your job and that's it. This is honestly a better severance IMPO.

Depending on the country, check with a lawyer. In certain countries, even if you are on a PIP, you will get severance.

PIPs are a joke at Dell. They're using them to lay people off without severance. They have nothing to do with personal improvement plans. HR at Dell is a joke.

Just treat the time on the PIP as a severance package and look for another job. If you get another job before they terminate you just quit.
