@OP That's why you focus on salary when you're looking for a job. HR and hiring managers always want to focus on total comp (salary, bonuses, stock, insurance, etc.) But bonuses aren't always awarded, you have to be with a company for x amount of time for options to vest, etc.

BTW, I'm jealous of Jill. For the last 7 years I was with Oracle I received exactly zero RSUs and probably $1/hr raise. Last year I was with the company, accounting for inflation, I was making about $10k less per year than when I started. Try it yourself, everyone. Put your salary in an inflation calculator and compare your salary now to what it was worth in the year you started.

@a9 It is promised compensation for work given after a period time, and not much different than the paycheck you are promised for work paid in arrears. Both you evaluate for total compensation before excepting the job.

High pay usually comes with high risk. Big paychecks don't come without big risks!

If you’re looking for a stable job, government jobs are worth considering. Law enforcement roles, in particular, can offer BIG FAT SALARIES, BIG FAT PENSIONS, Signing Bonus of up to $50,000 ... There seem to be very simple concepts that people do not want to accept.
If you have unvested stock, it’s just that. It’s not yours. Therefore, you don’t lose anything.
If you are on H1 visa, it’s just that. You are here temporary until/unless you change that status.
And there is a lot of people at Oracle who don’t receive bonuses or RSU. Makes it a bit hard to feel anything for those who make 300k/year in RSU alone. It’s not jealousy. But people who make close to 500k annually should be able to survive some downturns on their own.
