Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Offshoring Realities

Here's a comparable example from AMEX. No wonder American workers in Banking and Fintech companies are enormously frustrated with their corporate overlords! Hiring and ongoing layoffs are significantly worse than a carpet bo-b sprinkle of AI.

@ ac: That whole thread nails the uncomfortable truth: worker ‘protections’ in the US and UK look great on paper and function like Egyptian tombs in reality. Companies figured out the loophole years ago — keep the HQ address domestic, ship the work offshore, and suddenly all those fancy labor laws become optional décor. Governments shrug, vendors get squeezed, and employees get a masterclass in predatory economics.

And yes, universities aren’t helping. They’re churning out grads with degrees the finance world now treats like disposable appliances. No wonder half the commenters say they’d rather be electricians or HVAC techs. At least those jobs can’t be offshored to a server farm.

Reality: we have no protections of workers in the US and UK. And obsolete universities.
All the workers rights, EOE, corporate oversight, protections for safe pay, compensation discrimination, leave acts etc etc
Are NOT working!!!
They are for decorations only.
When US and UK based companies can use predatory economics to make it look like they are based in domestic location but fire employees and hire cheaply in India without said pesky labor laws. It is a huge problem of inaction by Govt and a drain on society.
Heck, even vendors of outsourcing firms in other countries arent getting fair practice.
And as for our colleges and Universities, they are churning out youth with meaningless or antiquated degrees. Hard to compete when the finance world now views degrees in Accounting and computer science as appliances with a short expiration life. If I had
To do it all over again, I’d have been an electrician, HVAC or plumber
