Resigning

2 questions related to resignation:

  1. When someone gives 2 weeks' notice, does ELV typically have them work the 2 weeks or do they let people go immediately?
  2. If ELV ends employment before the 2 weeks is up, do they pay through the notice period?

Never resign or retire. Let them RIF you and collect the severance. Ride it out. Hang in there.

You will be paid until your two weeks are complete. As to being paid for unused PTO that varies by state, and there are very few. You may not work your two weeks, but you’ll be paid. Sales positions that producers are usually let go day of notice, but are paid the two weeks. Any position that is higher risk for you to take something to a competitor is likely to have you done day of notice. You will be covered by health care until the end of the month. Similar for retirement. Once you give notice, in many cases, they will start transitioning your work or limiting your access to sensitive data.

@OP I resigned earlier in the year and was not able to paid for my pto but my manager let me take all of it whenever I wanted . I gave her about 3 weeks notices and used the last 2 as pto- I did though have a very good manager so that might have made the difference

@bc -Colorado also had to pay out. However, for people who have been transitioned to unlimited, I think it is like having nothing accrued so you get nothing!😮

My coworker and I resigned on the same day, different departments. They paid my coworker through the 2 week notice period, but she was not required to work. They shut her system down immediately. I worked through my notice period. Depends on team etc. I would not give more than 2 weeks notice.

Make sure to use ALL pto before handing in your resignation. Unless you live in CA you won't get paid for accrued PTO.

It's an unwritten rule that on your final day you can log out by 12 and receive pay for a full day. They also don't expect you to produce during your final two weeks for the most part. At that point it's understood that you're just waiting it out and collecting a check.

  1. They'll almost always let you run out the two weeks. In terms of liability, it's a lot safer and cheaper to let you quit than fire you.

  2. You'll get paid for each day that you're officially employed.
