Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

AI layoffs

We just heard that AI was used to generate an embedded software application that was previously written by a team of 10 software engineers. It took the team 8 months to create the embedded software.

AI completed the task in 22.6 hours. There was a 4.3% error rate that required manual correction. AI is getting better though...

Layoffs are coming especially for anyone that writes software by hand.

I believe it. Most 0f the tasks that engineers perform were automated to some extent years ago. Now it is full life-cycle AI that is doing the jobs of many engineers and doing it quicker, cheaper, and without mistakes.

@19z
The process will also be completed by AI. No need for engineers anymore.

@OP doesn’t take a team of 10 eight months to write the software. They could probably knock it out in less than a week. What takes 8 months is “process” and processes for those processes and probably another layer of processes and documents on top of that still.
