Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Principal / Lead salary?

it seems like the general consensus is that the teammates let go were great but expensive contributors.

anyone know how much principal or lead makes at nike? I don’t know why they wouldn’t keep their best talent to manage the tech with ai and let go of the bloated other ic

@hp Got to remember the cost of the premiums. For a family, those can be really high

@e9 Spending $25k+ per year on medical expenses does happen, but is not at all common. AI tells me that about 1% of insured Americans see medical bills that high in any given year.

@df you would be suprised. maybe not 50k, but at least half that. Plus there is more to it than just medical coverage

I was a lead ( level 40) engineer with 263K base. I am remote in a high cost of living city (I.e SF/NYC)

@da, here the medical costs are covered by the 50% income tax + 21% sales tax on income, which is double the tax our employees pay in the US. It’s not like you’re spending 50k a year on medical bills only.

@d9 how else can we pay for our medical bills though?

I’m surprised by these US salaries, principal in EMEA earns about EUR120k / USD 150k base salary, while the cost of living in the NL is also very high (such as 50% income tax).

I'm just a senior level (PM, not engineer) but I'm pretty sure the axe is coming in a couple hours. I'm getting $155K base because I'm remote in a more expensive place than Portland. Most of the PMs I know who were laid off were remote or high level as well. Seems like remote also puts a target on your back, not just being highly paid.

low salary generally means you're safe from layoffs, coupled with actually doing work, should be safe, though I think doing work thing is optional....

low 170 range seems pretty safe, though could be wrong

Send it to a third world country and pay pennies for semi competent people with false resumes

@a4 these are just base salaries, there is 15% bonus for leads and 20% for principals. Principal also gets yearly stock grants of $55k

According to this Leads make around 200, PE makes around 220-230. Even for SE II you are underpaid my friend. https://www.levels.fyi/companies/nike/salaries/software-engineer?country=254
