Does anyone know of someone fired based on their IP Address location from GlobalProtect? You always here these “threats” but has anyone actually ever been let go because they went and did a dive into the persons IP Address location that was pulled from GlobalProtect?

IT knows exactly where and how any company property is being used.
They really don't.
I am IT. Presence reporting is rudimentary at best - a baby could figure out a way around it.
It won't be the tech that catches you, it'll be some sour a-hole who reports you to HR when they notice you leaving early.
I have not used my COU device since 2025 when all this bull started, I keep trying to give it back.
Can GlobalProtect actaully stay connected long enough to do that?
Use VPN and shut off your WiFi.
IP freely.
@g9 I have looked at it before. One time when my entire peer team (3 of us total) were working offsite we compared IP addresses. It showed the same IP Address for all of us, going through a location in Indianapolis. Not sure what to make of that.
..he sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake, he knows when you've been bad or good so...
If you go to the RTO tracker you can see what IP addresses you've been working at. Its there but no one in my group is really using it. I have coworkers who left the US on vacation outside of the US. they brought their laptops and worked while there. Completely against company policy. People in my office who never report to their address in webphone. Its there. No one is looking or cares at least in my area.
Do they know the IP address at Hooters?
No one above L3 knows what an IP address is.
yes you are fired, if you are covered by a CWA contract and work from home, like a call center rep, and move to another state outside of the CWA contract area you are in, you show up on a report. Same applies if you go to another state on vacation and 'work from home'. If you moved you have 30 days to move back to your contract area. If you are on vacation, COBC... bye. IP addresses are routinely monitored for all non-mgt. Check your CWA contract, its explained there.
They wouldn’t need to. The presence report tells them you aren’t in the office meeting your requirements. People get fired for that all the time.
If you’re asking if a virtual worker could head to Vegas ?
You’re getting fired for that too.
You might get away with it if you stay in your home state and the hotel you’re at doesn’t backhaul the network to another state.
Even before rto they had tax compliance issues that would cause that to flag.
Leave your laptop connected in the office location and run your errands. Come back at the end of the day.
IP addresses and third-party. on address translators are monitored. As they should be.
IT knows exactly where and how any company property is being used.
If you're worried about your location, go to the office, or run a VPN.
No one in 2026 should be using COU phones or laptops for personal usage, use your personal phone or separate device. Not complicated
Work laptop and work COU are for all matters of AT&T business. Go outside of that, and you're likely being monitored.
