Medicaid audits are a joke. In the end they are as useful as IV&V. Only there for appearances. I helped on an audit once, as a State employee. None of the auditors ever asked if I was aware of any fraud or system failures and of course I didn't volunteer the information as it would have been career su----e.
If real audits were performed by DOGE-like teams the States would sh-t their pants as they would be exposed as incompetent stewards of our tax dollars. And yes chicken little it is the States responsibility not Gainwell's to actually use the data to uncover fraud.

Pretty pathetic if they are doing regular reviews and audits. Just look at the RI case against Gainwell. Liable for $500 BILLION. And that is just one state and one instance in that state.
Gainwell is flat taking advantage of an already poorly ran program. They are stealing from the states intentionally because they think they can get away with it. They over promise to land the contract and have zero intention to actually deliver anything. Then they squabble with the states and still bill based on the contract but don’t deliver. They may pay penalties and they may lose the business but then the cycle just starts over. It does appear that it’s finally catching up to them.
If someone took a hard look they would be shut down and the impact would be bigger than Enron.

Medicaid oversight isn’t something that gets switched on with a single “50-state audit”—it’s already continuous and handled jointly by states and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, with regular reviews and audits always underway. There’s no widely reported announcement of a new nationwide audit like that, so this likely reflects a misinterpretation or exaggeration of a more routine oversight effort.
