🚨 BREAKING: #Verizon CEO Dan Schulman says US unemployment will hit up to 30% in the next two to five years due to AI. Here's why:

Dan Schulman, who took over as #Verizon CEO last October, told the Wall Street Journal that #unemployment at that scale is his genuine forecast β€” not a warning, a projection.

Currently on Polymarket there's an 82% chance tech #layoffs will be up in 2026 in comparison to 2025 (447,000 layoffs).

He said manual laborers will eventually be replaced by humanoid robots and called on other CEOs to stop hedging and tell employees the truth. A month into his tenure, Schulman backed his words with action: a $20M fund to retrain 13,000 workers whose jobs Verizon expects AI to eliminate. He called it the first corporate fund specifically designed to address AI displacement, and said he intends to push other companies and the public sector to build similar programs.

The macro picture behind Schulman's warning is already taking shape. BCG published a report projecting that 50 to 55 percent of all US jobs will be materially impacted by AI in the coming years, with up to 15 percent wiped out entirely. Snap just laid off 16% of its workforce and cited AI as the reason smaller teams can now do the same work. The pattern is the same across industries: fewer people, faster output, AI as the justification. Most CEOs are framing this as efficiency. Schulman is calling it what it is. #ai #verizon #jobs πŸ”— πŸ€–

Does anyone want to tell anyone Dan that the running joke retort in the company now (below the director level at least) is "maybe AI can do it!" whether it's taking a pi$$ or changing the coffee filter or the response to any new senseless directive from management, you can be guaranteed that someone will say "maybe AI can do it!"

Dan is the wirst cimmunicatir in my 40 years at Verizon. Clueless on strategy, growth. Blame Vz BOD... nice transition plan.. but Artic Frost and Vz supporting Jack Smiths CPNI attacks while AT&T did not did the job the Board failed to do... hire strong CEOs after Ivan. Hans/Executive Team total failure.

Dan also said he would "unlock potential" in Verizon to drive the stock price to $75 within his tenure. He's a quarter of the way through his 2 years and only has 61% to go.

Agree. More an excuse for companies to do what they wanted to do anyway. Kind of a pile-on. When it becomes normal for big layoffs, you see more layoffs. When a company has some bad news they can't avoid, they pile on all the bad news they can find so they can report it in that "bad" quarter. Then they go on with life. So here's the big opportunity for companies to get leaner without looking bad since everyone else will be doing it.

AI is real but not at the rate they claim. It's being used as an excuse to outsource operations, and reduce liability.
