How are medical exceptions to work from home treated in regards to if there were a declared management surplus? There is a group of 25 or so US management employees where 5 or 6 of them are in this category (yes, this is still happening). Some of them feel this protects them due to "medical" but obvious thinking is the people who don't report to an office would be at the top of list when a surplus is declared. Could be legal implications? Thoughts?

If you believe this site all the top performers get laid off first.
You can’t be let go because of your disability, but you are NOT guaranteed you keep a job because of a disability.
You can let go during a surplus just like anyone else.
Get a cane and take some acting classes.
If they go after entire organizations then medical issues will not save them. There may be a short deferral but nothing anywhere close to permanent. I have seen it happen to a coworker of mine in NJ.
That question belongs with the EEOC.
Corporate sanctioned virtual employees at at&t are considered sacred cattle. Mess with them and you'll be gone.
WFH has been around for a lot longer than some people know. However the numbers were so low that not a lot of people were aware. However when almost everyone was given or in some cases forced to make that change it became a right. And it was misused by some. Definitely feel sorry for the folks that are being asked to relocate long distances with no guarantee of continued employment. Like a lot of older large companies AT&T is using it as a way to downsize. Don’t like it but the technology is eliminating a lot of work content. My area was fibered a few years ago. Had the usual heavy spring rains and haven’t seen a single truck in my neighborhood. Assume that is happening in a lot of the business. See some of the problems that some of the downsizing is causing but if anyone is longing for the days of the past that is not going to happen.

The “obvious” thinking is flawed. Top of the list is ALWAYS lower performers, and anyone that makes their Boss’s jobs difficult. And yes, there are still low performers that report to an office every day. Additionally, at the top of the list are those that are SUPPOSED to report 5 x 8 and are not complying with that mandate. Virtuals that are still here are probably good at their jobs. They are not going to get served up before the others mentioned.
