Is there any advantage between retiring vs surplussed - other than severance?

@a2 It is an Advantage Plan not Supplement. You have to go to plan Doctors. Not the ones you choose.

If you are surplussed, you may be eligible for unemployment in addition to your severance, depending on the state you live in.

Surplus is way better you get six months pay and medical. You also get to take you pention as a lump sum that is Hugh! Also if you are surplused you can still retire and get the benifits of that for the rest of your life.

If your craft , better to be surplussed or take a PMR.

If you're craft and retirement eligible (MR75), you can take the surplus payout AND retire.

Money to leave and you get the retiree benefits.

Little additional charges are popping up. I had to pay a little o my annual physical this year. Generally pleased with the plan other than the fact that someone in the process seems to want to shovel meds down your throat regardless of whether you need or want. After my physical my doctor renewed my prescriptions. Started getting texts to pick up meds that I had plenty of. Ongoing issue and hard to cancel. Not against getting what is basically free to me but would hate for the company to use the unnecessary expense to justify a lot of increase in that cost.

For management, not really. You can easily beat the “discounted” wireless plan at any MVNO as a regular customer. And that’s about it.

That said, while there is no pre 65 medical subsidy anymore, once you hit 65 you would be eligible to participate in the United Health PPO Medicare supplement plan that most people seem to be very happy with. Has a max OOP of $900 per year.
