Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Does anyone have insights into the reasoning behind the layoffs?

I mean, it's very easy to blame bootlickers, M5s and above, but overall it doesn't seem to add up. If I am being objective about it, I have not seen anyone extraordinarily good being laid off, ie, I was not shocked on hearing about someone. Sure, everyone claims they toiled long and hard, but only they know the truth.

The secret is to shove your head up leaderships a-s while loudly articulating how much you love AI while also including the chant of "more with less", "more with less", hallowed be the AI.

@a3/OP, @a2 here... why would you trust this company anymore? There will be future rounds of layoffs and the rationale will be different every time. Management made a loud and clear statement "Employee loyalty has no value to them". They are only loyal to financial profits. If you are trying to navigate your career at a company like this it is simple and the signs have been there all along hanging from the ceiling by every door in red letters "EXIT".

Not this layoff, but last year I saw 2 extremely talented individuals let go with over 25 years of experience each. I suspect they (like myself) were not actively engaged in AI progress.
If you are in a tech role at Oracle and want to keep it, you may want to salivate over every chance you have to tell people how great AI is and what you are planning to do with it.

@a2 OP here. Just curious I guess and partly self preservation. If the message from the top is, no matter how well you do, there's an equal chance you'll be affected, why would anyone care? However, if the message is, if you are an underperformer, we will find you and snuff you out, you cannot brush it under the carpet even if your manager supports you, people will have a different approach

To add to the above, yes, there have been full teams sent home which included good people and that kinda makes sense because they don't see a profitable roadmap for that unit.
