@bn These are still favoritised layoffs. More layoffs to come. There are ongoing discussions to reduce 30-40% of workforce with multiple layoffs and optimize workforce.

I was surprised that little or no Middle Managers, Directors and VPs were really cut in layoffs. My world is still very very top heavy.
@a1 big payouts won't stop them. Those are a 1 time cost vs maintaining a highly paid and marginally skilled person indefinitely. Laws like these will prevent the good jobs from coming to your country and the EU in the future.
It makes sense to streamline the management structure in advance of major layoffs. Do the reorgs and then trim the fat. This way the company is posed to move on after the layoff event more efficiently.
People aren't getting it yet. Big layoffs are going to happen across industries. You can act like it won't get to you for whatever reason but you should be preparing for your world to be rocked. If you aren't preparing for what is coming you will be left behind and may never catch up.
Go read about what happened at Disney today, specifically at Marvel. Highly skilled and industry awarded groups were cut to skeleton staff and they will hire people going forward on a per project basis i.e. contract work
Go read the report from Stanford HAI that came out in the past few days on the state of AI. It is a 400+ page document but there are good summaries. AI improves so fast there is no way humans will be able to keep up in the job market.
in Canada this is referred to as constructive dismissal and is not possible. lot of layoffs with big severance payments for middle management and directors if this happens.
Directors would get at least 1 month per year worked.
