Was on Medical Disability for Cancer treatment, was laid off

I was undergoing cancer treatment and radiation therapy when my manager asked me if I could work three days a week and take a part-time FMLA instead of the full disability leave. This would allow me to regain my rhythm and continue earning commissions.

I decided that this arrangement would be beneficial for my morale and overall well-being, so I agreed. However, two weeks later, I was laid off! I had been pre-approved for the entire year to receive 90% of my pay and full medical coverage. Now, I will lose my coverage and have no job or income while I am recovering. I spoke to a few lawyers, but they all told me that I was in trouble.

I finally got approved for a hybrid accommodation (1+ wfh day) for what i thought was burnout from my autism. After fighting for months with them I got it approved and was laid off the following Tuesday. Turns out it was just 12 years of the stress of the environment causing it!

if you are salaried and has the epo insurance, tmobile pays your health care 2 to 3 months during Garden leave. After exit date they pay first 2 months of COBRA and pay first 2 months after exit date. If you are management they pay longer months for COBRA. Not sure maybe 6 months. Then after that u start paying COBRA. You are probably higher than manager. FMLA covers 60% or 65% only for regular employees not in management position. FMLA covering 90%, are you SVP? The cost of chemotherapy and 2 surgeries from my experience is more than 300k$ some years back but there is a portion only of that u need to pay as copay. Rest of the cost is covered by insurance. Factor in +++ inflation. Goodluck and prayers to you! Also for those not yet laid off and undergoing medical treatment, why will you work during chemo treatment or radiation? Prioritize health and family. These 2 treatments require less stress, it will cause serious fatigue and has side effects. They are not a walk in the park.

I’m so sick of seeing the executives that impact peoples lives this way post on sites like LinkedIn pretending they’re superheroes. They’re sc-mbags that should never be able to look at themselves in a mirror let alone boast their so called accomplishments.

This is definitely an edge case, you may need to talk to HR directly, and maybe hire a lawyer.

Wow. Pretty sleazy or your manager (and HR who had to be in on it) to do this. But for TMUS, it's now de rigeur.
