@b2 hmm. Sounds like someone really does need a friend. Lol.

Have you considered asking if there was a reason for a 2 hour call? Maybe they think they are giving you some “free time” not realizing they are nails on chalk board.

If the meetings truly have no purpose other than a standard 1 on 1, I would ask why the 2 hr block is needed. I get a half hour every 2 weeks. I’d probably start twitching if I had to do 2hrs a week.

@a1 it’s mostly chit chat and do you need help with anything. I’m pretty independent and know what i’m doing when it comes to work.

It depends. Bi weekly should suffice if you can mostly do your work without their direct involvement. If you need their input frequently then maybe meet more often.

In the words of Gunjan, sounds like your manager needs friends.

@OP They love 1:1’s in private wealth management. Instead of getting out and meeting our clients or meeting with prospective new clients, we have non-stop internal meetings and 1:1’s just to be told all the things we should be doing differently to be better at our jobs. How about you leave us alone and let us actually go be good at our jobs!!! USB is such a cultural mess right now, leadership has no faith in us so they micromanage us to death.

@OP yes, I would consider it excessive. I sometimes feel one hour a week is too much with my boss. But yes I guess it depends what projects may be coming due.

More context would be great.

What do you talk about? Is it project related?

Are you struggling in an area and they are coaching you?
Are they taking GKs advice and looking for a friend?

What you’re discussing would be helpful in answering.

I talk with my manager way more than 2 hours per week on projects and other things.

So, spill the tea.
