Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

The golden handcuffs with rust

Leaving isn't realistic anymore at my age. I'm too close to the finish line to jump ship now. So I show up, do my work, and wait. Not because I want to, but because I don't really have another good choice. There are so many who feel the same way. This job has turned into a prison sentence.

I retired at 55 as it was clear that Honeywell was doing all they could to clear out older workers. Best career move ever. Within a year the global teams I had worked with were gone, forced relocation was the order of the day, and anyone I had any respect for had left or been thrown overboard.

Do whatever you need to do.

I agree with you. I tried to leave.
In today’s society. You have to know somebody. If you’re not popular or you’re too damn old. You’ll be stuck in this job until you retire. Worst case scenario. They will give you a layoff, RIF, PIP, or give you a severance package.

This is how they get rid of you. If this isn’t worth to just relocate the company and you don’t get to go with.

I have five years left. I don’t know if I’m gonna meet with all the rumors speculations taken place at the current Minneapolis location.

You may not get a choice in the matter as the company tends to lay off older workers whenever they can get away with it. I hope it doesn’t happen for you, but prepare now. Get your resume, savings, retirement contingency plans and LinkedIn profile working for you now.

I’ve been doing this since 2010. Someday they will notice I don’t do anything… I definitely know a few things.. knowing is much less effort than doing. Tried to volunteer rif multiple times but always denied. They tried kcat to remove the single point failure (aka old fa-t).. I spent all my time teaching the young person how to get a better job. Three regrettable departures in a row.. so sad. I got an invitation to the wedding of mentee #1 last week. June wedding.. so nice.
Wife is too annoying for me to hang out at home.

I know some folks like this and the healthy ones seem to be very protective of their peace and very careful not to go outside of their immediate responsibilities. I think it can be tolerated in the short term but wouldn’t want to do it for more than a year or two.
