Three words, “DON’T DO IT!”
There are many, many people who did and are now seeking new work in their new cities. Please do not let fear or desperation cloud your judgement about this major life decision. You’re far more likely to find a better job where you are than move far away to a new city and try to start over as an unemployed job-seeker. Besides, you’re also competing with everyone else in the area that got duped by AT&T and surpluses after moving. And there are a lot of them.
AT&T isn’t planning to close the Lenox complex in Atlanta, but closing Alpharetta has been discussed as an option since 2024. Some people just make up nonsense on here.
In fact, AT&T has spent a lot of capital on improvements at Lenox Park. Wishful thinking because Alpharetta is closer to some doesn’t change the reality.
@dj Atlanta is expensive. Not as cheap as you think. Office is an expensive neighborhood. Live far out to save will cost you average 2+ hours a day
The Lenox office will close and the Alpharetta office is one exit from historic Klan kounty (Forsyth co)
“The message is clear; they do not want me here but that signal wasn't as obvious 3 years ago.”
You’ve gotten 3 years of bloated salary due to moving and should be grateful. Lifetime employment was never a guarantee.
I moved in the first wave. Regretting it ever since. The message is clear; they do not want me here but that signal wasn't as obvious 3 years ago.
I surprised my leadership and chose not to relocate. They extended my exit date by 4 months so I had a new job offer signed and sealed before I left. Best decision I have ever made.
I haven't been asked yet, but I will never relocate. First, I'm not too far away from retirement. Second, this company does not give a cr-p about their workers. Never move for a company that behaves in the way this one has. There are options. Seek them.
I am choosing to relocate to Atlanta or Dallas. Seattle and NJ are super expensive to afford. With the new headquarters, Frisco makes sense to move. For Atlanta, cu----g makes sense to move rather than Lennox. My time will be up in 2 years mostly coinciding with the HQ move.
In Any big city like Chicago, commute to downtown takes 1 hour and housing both are brutal putting child care at risk.
I have yet been asked to move. I’m guessing it will coincide with the new headquarters. I’ll choose to retire.
Dallas is a disgusting place so I eventually refused to move and the AT&T RTO police took my job. Work for a competitor now and happy to be out of there. There is life beyond this terrible company. Only a separate person would move to Dallas just to be laid off shortly afterwards. So sorry to hear of those who have been treated this way.
I found another job internally when I was asked to relocate. That was before we went to 5x8. Had I known we were going to 5x I would have taken the severance and left.
I moved to Dallas and regretted it within a month. I moved back under a title demotion shortly after.
I moved to Dallas and have never looked back.
Yes.
No.
Relo is an individual decision. There is no one size fits all.
