When I joined two years ago, travel for my role was described as occasional, but in reality it turned out to be anything but and it keeps increasing. A lot of it is last-minute, which makes planning anything outside of work difficult. Maybe if I was single I wouldn't mind so much, but I have a wife and two kids and this has been messing with my family time significantly. Why do they have to lie when hiring?

@OP people in L&D have to travel to call centers to train usually with little notice and be onsite 4-6 weeks. The group overseeing it has no idea what is going on with their travel and ask employees to give up their own time to travel but unwilling to give time back.
What seems to fly over many heads is WHY travel is involved. What does an AVP do on site? Observe a dog and pony show?
There are jobs in this company who are specialized and have hands-on responsibilities, or are in high tough sales environments.
This has to be made up BS. Even my AVP doesn’t travel more than a day or two a month on average. My last AVP came to my city twice and other were for under 24 hours and that was in a 3 1/2 year time period.
@OP sounds like this is from Learning and Development. They can't figure out how to send someone to a site in their state so fly people in but let people go cause not in a hub. It's a cluster in that area!

I refuse to travel. I have to be in my dedicated office 5x8. Their rules.

We was told there is an embargo on corporate travel. The company just doesn't want to pay any money whatsoever for travel. How does your frequent travel benefit at&t?
