Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

For IT people

Just saw this on Wells Fargo's board, it's coming our way too:

    Agentic engineering as a standard
    Link: @OP+1kmzq8d4n

    We all knew that something like this will surface sooner or later. Now all engineers are expected to go full agentic starting right this second ( according to the communication). They even drafted a roadmap of how they envision this would take place. What are your thoughts about this move? I guess, this is mainly will affect technology but looks like some businesses will be included in this madness as well.

Did you guys see Melania T walking out with a robot? Those robots will soon replace all of us, gheeez! I am in IT and use AI agents in my daily work, but I am not a big fan. Sure, I can tell my AI agent to build an entire system in just a few minutes, similar system that I can build in a few months. But who's going to support that system built by an AI agent when it breaks? Me? No way! AI agent code are not perfect and sometimes difficult to understand. Sure, AI can help in productivity in many ways, but in my opinion, we're still far from being dominated by AI.

@a1
This is going to affect everyone? How? When?
Agentic AI is an advanced form of AI focused on automatic decision-making and action. Unlike traditional AI, which primarily responds to commands or analyzes data, agentic AI can set goals, plan, and execute tasks. Now come back to BNY and its management and think.
How in the world can we ‘run’ with Agentic when we can’t even ‘walk’ with Eliza? And how will our overstuffed and overpaid IT management permit this level of decision making over themselves? This is going to be like P-O-M. Another buzzword that gets overhyped, overused and over bureaucracied.
You better get on the train right now?
Like that California train to nowhere. Yep. Sure.

this is going to affect everyone, IT just happens to go first.

they will go agentic in every single segment, it, back office, front office, shared services, sales, customer support, risk, you name it.

this cannot be avoided, you better get on the train right now as the learning curve is going to be steep. get claude cowork at home and experiment, it'll prepare you well and you will realize what's coming our way.

code development is done deal, that is already being implemented hence this rollout news by wells, i am sure we are working on the same thing - we are just 3 to 6 months behind (as always)
