Heard stories of someone who wishes they took their full leave and was RIFd anyway, but anyone truly at home with baby and got a call!

Anyone on medical leave was told, however their official end date is not until after the medical leave ends. Oracle is not the worse company out there. Those people will still get the severance, etc.
I was on medical leave...which was unpaid...and they waited until I got back and put me in the next round of RIF's exactly one month later. Was really fun after I had just lost a pregnancy, a grandparent, and a parent all in the same month. They truly do not care about anything but money. over 16 years with the company...no one else on my team got RIF'd, to say I was not targeted for needing time off during such circumstances would be BS. Truly shame on them.
It depends on the geography - some countries have protections for workers on maternity/paternity, STD, LTD, etc. One of my directs in India was on maternity leave when the whole team was blitzed and they waited until her leave was over to eliminate her position.
Great question I would like to know the answer to as well. I am currently on paternity leave and know of several coworkers who have been laid off, but my email is clean and VPN still works
