Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Situation outside our bubble is dire

I would otherwise be out without a second thought. I don't know what your experience is, but there are barely any jobs out there. I reached my peak burnout just as there are no options left. Well, I'll just tread water here until better times, trying not to go nuts from having to show up here every day.

I believe the one year non-compete clause is in contracts for 3rd level and above. For the rest of us, from what I've been told, we have to wait 6 months before working for a vendor that sells to Verizon.

@cr severance legally does not block you from working for a competitor

There are jobs but if you worked for Verizon for most of your career and “telco” is your badge then your less marketable - and your severance (should you accept it) would prevent you from working at a competitor for 1year. So if you have other transferrable skills or have worked in another job or industry’s you are in better shape.

This is just life in corporate America right now. You have to basically beg to get a white collar job, and once you are in, it's pretty rough.

I'm on the same boat. Been applying to jobs for months. The AD I work with has become unbearable, demanding more and more ridiculous deliverables, acting like I'm an administrative assistant, belittling me and my work etc. Why do this and make someone miserable when they do their job? Their answer, "it's a year of intensity". Yeah Dan Dan makes sure to say it all the time we get it but, do you really need to stoop that low. VZ is a horrible place to work these days.

Be prepared to do 3 to 5 times your work load.
