You won’t see a warn notice before a rif. The garden leave will be used to cover the warn notice. Technically still an employee during that time.

No WARN letters have been filed. So it’s not as big as people think it will be

@1kv is that $ what the million dollar consultants told CVG?

Well in CVG it sounds like we are looking to drop SGA by $120 million so that is almost 500 heads I think.

Sure there is a lot of misinformation here but generally where there is smoke, there is fire. And there is a lot of smoke here now. :).

@144 I’m not sure how you measure discussion quality, but I am sad to report that big layoffs and a reorg will be announced soon. It is inevitable.

@kc it feels like the average post quality on this site is the best indicator of layoffs. If there's a bunch of thoughtful discussion, we're in the thick of them. If it's just people bashing DEI and the execs, nothing big is coming.

When GM was a star hockey player at Penn State back when he was getting his business management degree, his teammates referred to him as "Headwinds" for his excellent offensive performance as a power forward.

Definitely happening. Between OU shifts and restructuring, “retiring” or “transitioning “ management. If only they could just let us know sooner rather than stressing everyone out

Wednesday is April 1st in the US. the MDT month of RIFs, you don't need AI if you've been around 5 years or more to predict this fact.

@mf I am kinda skeptical. In this electronic age, why would anyone print hard copies of … anything? Then, leave it on the printer to be found? Wouldn’t these helpful docs just get emailed to managers? Hard to not think this is fake news….

It’s true. I saw a printout today left at the copier with references to layoffs. Such as a Separation Discussion Guide for managers and Business Update tools and severance package briefs. Also a checklist for what to get from employees before you walk them out. Should be fun!

@jj Appreciate the positive coaching on AI. Wise words. But, anyone asking AI to analyze the threads in this site should be cautious. The entries are unreliable and sometimes have the vulgarity of a 10yr old. The remaining posts that could be considered reliable - from folks sharing personal experiences - are few.

I entered this URL into Google AI Mode to see what it would summarize. It was very interesting. You should try it on Chat GPT, Gemini, Claude, MS Copilot, etc. When I added "context", the AI concluded a bunch of sophisticated maneuvers were in place to send most American engineering jobs to India with the note that some longtime employees may think they are safe but could get caught into the incremental sweeps. The AI looked at overall trends in industry along with the Medtronic data available online. It's very interesting. I'm glad I'm no longer there.

As for me, I code with AI on my new job. I found using Github Copilot or any other AI assistant works well for software engineers who also have a background in specifying requirements. For example, l literally specified a Gherkin format of requirements for an online quiz using JSON, and the AI generated a web page with how to integrate the JSON for keys and values. So, if you know how to write strong rquirements, enter it into the AI chat, review the output as a software engineer and do a code review line-by-line, then update as needed, it works. This requires hybrid skills combining roles of a product owner, software engineer, and SDET. I found it accelerate code for production rapidly like moving from a 1940s propeller plane to a mach 2 stealth jet. If you want to survive, embrace the AI. It works well if you learn how to use it. There are many tutorials on YT or Udemy. I usually go to Udemy.

AI also analyzed the "situation" at Medtronic very well in my opinion. Enter "Medtronic Layoffs" into Chat GPT or just enter the URL for this site. It'll analyze the threads and give a summary of observations.

Be interesting to see if they touch middle management. 10% haircut can easily be absorbed through vendor management and cancelling open reqs.

Minimal 10% trim across the Org. Maybe more. Who knows? Stay positive!
