Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Burnt to a crisp

Is anyone else burning out, or is it just me? I get it, we have to move fast to turn business around and remain competitive. I just can’t keep leading initiatives with impossible expectations. I’ve always been a high performer, but lately I feel like I’m constantly failing because I’m being asked to do things that just aren’t feasible. And to top it off, what I’m being asked to do goes against everything my experience and education in good leadership and Project Management has taught me. It does not feel good.

Trolls: refrain from commenting about RTO and being in office. I do go to the office and participate lots of meetings. So STFU.

@gt what is the normal increase at Target if you don't mind sharing?

It’s important to detach your persona from your job and do the best you can but nothing more than that during working hours

Yup. And being expected to work like sh-t isn’t falling apart in the world is gross. Especially here where it was ground zero for ICE. So over it all.

Totally agree - we are constantly asked to be taking on more work of course with no consideration of our workload and without any additional compensation. It’s a slap in the face then when you annual review time comes around and you are hardly getting an increase for all your work.

I’m at u.s. bank and randomly looked over and it’s like reading my own journal. Burnt out and barely hanging on. Thanks corporate amerikuh!

All of this, while leadership turns to ChatGPT to develop their strategy

300% OP. I totally get it. Just when I thought designers and tech were struggling to keep up; it's apparent that EVERYONE regardless of role or title is also feeling it. So done with reactionary leaders asking for last minute changes to designs that were approved days before. And the moment you complain about the constant rework; you are deemed not a team-player.

Kudos to you for pointing out the troll that keeps shaming people for preferring WFH. They make it seem like we are averse to going into the office, when many of us go in for milestone assortment reviews/meetings with vendors/reviewing samples, etc.

Plus, working from home has its advantages BUT it also encourages working past hours to get sh-t done; and the company exploits that. Since pandemic, and post-pandemic; if anything, WFH has made it harder for me/us to have the work/life balance needed when you are always available. So I have no idea why this troll keeps assuming that WFH TMs are lazy or slacking when I was putting in 10+ hour days a week, and weekends (and working through lunches). And I wasn't the only one. So glad to be done with TGT.

I’ve been burned out since December. Doesn’t help I’m also covering for all my coworkers going on long vacations and I haven’t had any time off since Christmas.
But even outside of that, the expectations are too high and people are piling on unnecessary work for the sake of work. There’s no prioritization, no critical eye at what actually has an impact. Just “do everything you can!”

I’m getting so snappish and have absolutely no patience for this company’s bullsh-t anymore.

In my career I’ve learned that if I’m up against unrealistic expectations, then everyone else is too, which makes the playing field technically still level.

Unless you don’t think that’s actually true and can point to evidence.

I’ve left jobs because I don’t like feeling like I’m failing, and later looked back and realized everyone fell short and the issue wasnt I wasn’t capable,

If you can tune out the bad feelings and clearly communicate the outcomes that are happening and why, make recommendations for what exactly needs to change to get them whatever X is that they want that is currently unrealistic you’ll be fine, but it is a pain in the a-s

As another project manager at Target, I can say I completely hear you and agree
