Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Accept the fact that Oracle will reorganize and have layoffs

I was laid off and stupid enough to come back to just go through a reorganization 6 years later and realized I was going to be let go again. I was smart enough the second time to get out before it happened. It doesn't matter what group you work for or how important your position is at Oracle, upper management doesn't care. I was in management and your manager will be informed there is a reorganization. They might have an HR meeting to discuss how the layoff will work but they don't have names until the day of the event. This is how Oracle works. You are just a piece of toilet paper on a roll. There are thousands of rolls and when Oracle decides to take a dump, well you might be the end result of being wiped and flushed. Your used up and it doesn't matter how good, valuable or whatever you are. I have seen smart, creative, intelligent people let go by Oracle and wondered what were they thinking. Wiped and flushed. Putting yourself through stress and anxiety will be your life at Oracle if you let them control you. When you accept the fact that your just toilet paper on the roll, they will need to take a dump and you could be the next sheet to be wiped and flushed. Its just the Oracle way. Good luck. Keep the resume updated and never turn down an opportunity to interview.

A lot of sh-----g on Oracle like it's the only IT company in the world to do layoffs. I've been in IT for a couple of decades and all companies lay people off. That's the nature of the business. Everybody acting like it's Oracle's nefarious agenda or some nonsense like that. Oracle is no different from any other company that is laying off thousands of employees. I survives MANY layoffs at Oracle and one finally hit me in August. Layoffs are a fact of life. They su-k, but it isn't like Oracle just suddently went all personal to sc--w people over. They have their agenda and it's their money. JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COMPANY. Be sad about being laid off, but if you aren't laid off yet, then you're crying about something that hasn't happened yet. What is described by the OP here is literally what happens at ALL companies that lay people off. They feel flushed. They feel scared. It's NORMAL. It may be a little more worrisome now because many companies are laying off around the same time, making the market more competitive, but I've been on the boards and my resume has gotten tractions and I've gotten interviews. I just finished up an interview loop and will be getting an offer soon. But it took me time to navigate the new way of how interviews work today. A good friend of mine started his first day in a new IT job today. He has had a hard time finding work, but he did. The jobs are out there. My best advice: save as much as you can and keep the monthly overhead low at this time. Keep the spending down and make it so you can live on less until times get better.

I don't think it is smart to to ignore a severance pay for 6 years.

@b8 I left for something different and less pay. Sometimes your health is worth the change. I had to make some changes as well, but I am much happier.

@a3 when you left did you change industries and is your compensation in the new job equivalent to Oracle? If you left to retire after making a big pile of money through Oracle that doesn't really count. Most people can't "leave" under those terms.

@af Oracle is late to the world of layoffs and it needs to play catch up. To name a few companies go look at the numbers of layoffs at Amazon, Meta, or Intel over the past few years. Others in this thread have posted about the precarious state of the economy so Oracle's timing of the layoffs couldn't be worse for the employees. Getting a new job will be really hard for most people.

The collapse of the worldwide economy will see many once great companies fold. This month's layoffs are just a start.

Here's some black pilling for you.

SaaS is stagnant.
LLM AI is a grift and they are AI flogging you to try and manifest reality.
The butcher's bill is coming due for decades of free money.
Private equity is going to implode taking everything else with it.

Oracle was the most stressful company I ever worked for. I'm glad I left. And at the end of the day what was it for? To make LE richer? So he can buy media companies for his kids or whatever? Yeah. No thanks
