Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

The relief of Friday

I realized just how much I hate and dread my job the moment I realized the relief and happiness I feel come Friday. It's almost physical. Is this really how we're going to live our lives until retirement? I have at least ten years to go, I honestly don't know how my mental health is going to take it.

@OP The true barometer is how you feel Sunday night!

Has it always been that way for you or has it crept up since 2020?

I think this company seems like its organizational health is plummeting. I don't think it will be around in 10 years, at least not in this form. Don't ignore your misery.

The best time to find a job is when you have one. Search for at least an hour a day. Maintain at this job--on time for meetings, hit deadlines, but don't put in any heroic efforts.

Dont be loyal to a company that is not in the slightest loyal to you. Nothing is lost by working on the resume, and looking for other opportunities elsewhere. Take control.

I relate to this so much. Just curious how old are you ? I am 40 and wondering what does retirement age look like like now a days ?

You have one life. Decide what’s important. I personally can’t see staying in any environment that causes hate, dread, anxiety, mental anguish etc.

@OP
“Is this really how we're going to live our lives until retirement?”

As someone who began my professional career around 2000, lost everything during The Great Recession, has struggled to rebuild, and is looking at the real possibility of never getting to truly retire, I can say:
Yes. This is part of the career lifecycle.
