Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Three people gone from my team yesterday

Skilled, experienced, two were veterans. Feels like they're targeting the ones we actually need. Apparently being good at your job is now a liability.

@dt - 2019 called, they want their “ok boomer” saying back. Avocado toast pretty much sums up the entire generation.

@bj Veteran employees sometimes know more than the people who manage them which then makes manager insecure. Also veteran employees might be more resistant to changes leadership wants to make on how things are done. If a veteran employee is arguing with leadership about a change they want to make it can overly influence others to be resistant to changes as well. Sometimes it is easier to just get rid of those employees. I worked in an area a couple of years ago where 1 veteran employee got it in her head she was right about everything and low key bullied people who had alternative ideas. At that point this person is no longer an asset as they don’t really want to collaborate or entertain solutions they didn’t come up with. She wasn’t always right and some of her processes were problematic but no one questioned what she did because of her experience or management failures or both. Then the other problem was she was the go to person and it su-ked when you wanted an alternative opinion on the issue because it seemed like no one else on the team wanted to give you the time of day.

Younger employees don’t say no and are eager to please. Plus they want our houses and are hoping hardships give them opportunities to eat avocado toast in a brand new kitchen.

The veterans make more $$$ It feels like they want to cut costs by any means necessary.
