A lot of economists think the 40 hour workweek is outdated because it was designed for factory labor in the early 1900s. Today most work is knowledge work, and studies show productivity often drops after about 30–32 hours. The 40 hour work week was designed to keep you tired and to control you.

@dg Don't we all.
In my day we worked 120 hours/week, walked in the snow to get to work, and loved it.
By the way they are monitoring your computer - if you are not attempting to look like you are doing something most of the time to try and fill up a full 40 you are probably being flagged ...
Most people in most professions work nowhere near 40 hours of ACTUAL work per week. And haven't for decades and decades. I'd say I work a solid 20 hours a week but get paid for 40 hours of work. Not because I'm trying to cheat the system but because I can get my work done in under 20-30 hours in a given week.
I like my mammary glands oozing frothy milk while easing into my work week.
