Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

60 day notice period

If I start a new job with another company during my 60 day non working notice do I forfeit my severance? What is citi’s policy on this?

The documentation I received stated, if you obtain a position outside of Citi prior to the 60-day non-working notice end date, you are required to report that to HR as technically you are still a Citi employee. You will still receive your severance package, not letting Citi know, you will forfeit the severance package.

@e9 Severance and non working period are 2 different things. While in the non working period you are a citi employee. And as an employee you are not allowed to have another full time job. Once the non working period ends and you get your severance there is nothing to stop you from taking another job. Not worth the risk during the non working period unless the new job pays well to give up your severance. Seems kind of d-mb but whatever.

Isn't it 90-day WARN requirement in both NY and NJ? which state are you in?

@e7 agree. Don’t start working at the new role until your nonworking period ends.

@e7

There's nothing in the notification and Severance letter that states you're not permitted to accept a new job with a new employer.

You're Not legally or morally obligated to inform Citi you got a job offer to work for ABC Corp..

You're in a non-working period getting paid by Citi because Citi laid you off. Layoffs are NOT voluntary. Citi put you in this predicament.

In the 60 day non working period you are still an employee on the payroll. With benefits etc. The only difference is you aren't actually working. So yes, if you accept another job Citi can essentially fire you and you lose your package.

@OP curious about this as well, though I haven’t heard of a non working period of 60 days. I felt lucky to get 30 days when others close to me were given only days.

U land another job? Which location?

It’s none of their business. You don’t have to tell them anything.

Its all in whatever you signed. The 60 day period is supposed to prevent you from working another job. If that's what's in the agreement and you signed in, and then you go and take another job - and THEN they find out, yes you risk loosing it.

If i am not mistaken it’s none of their business. Thats the money they agreed to pay you because of the reduction they made. As long as u dont return to citi before the stated timeframe of when u have to pay back the severance i believe you are fine
