Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Show of hands

Who else pivoted from being terrified of layoffs to hoping to be laid off just to get out of this mess in the last couple of months or so?

It continues to amaze me how many clowns here post how they "wish" to get laid off. The arrogance of man Oracle employees is pathetic.

Unless you can fully support yourself and your dependents for at least a year or more, be grateful you have a job now. The IT job market is the worst it's been in a very long time. Face it, you will have to complete against hundreds of other applicants for the limited number of well-paying IT jobs. And plan on a major pay cut if you even get offered a job. It's all about supply and demand, with the demand for quality, well-paying IT jobs way higher than the available supply.

Never make "them" aware you'd like to get chosen. They'll simply make your life so bad that you quit without severance pay.

'Im set for retirement ….wish you all the best' Same here..
More than happy to get 'the package' and go off and do other things.
Been a good ride up until the last couple of years, now with a few exceptions my management chain is really just a bunch of yes men/women. Instead of agreeing to fix things they are allowing stuff to happen to further deprecate this once great company, now they are beholden to the new OCI CEO d0uchebag.... sad

If i was more confident in my ability to find a new job i would be hoping for it . I am almost 30 and live at home not necessarily by choice :) . If i knew tech was going to get this bad this fast i don't think i would have ever went to school for it. Considering a complete career change but i have no idea what else i can even do longterm.

My last child just finished college so without that expense I kind of want my name on that list. It will beat my middle manager saying for the third time in three years "let's all be thankfully to still be here. Now let's divide up this extra work to the three of us that remain." How many of us, if let go, no longer want to work in IT?

It depends on the size of the settlement. I'm considering go back to university and retraining, but courses start in September so if I get laid off now I don't know if the sums will add up.

Unfortunately I need to hang on at the O, until I find another job. Do I like it, no. However I have bills and a child in college. Some money in the bank, but not enough to hope I get the riff. The current market is not great, but something will surface. Stay positive, peace and love.

OP, what changed for you? Did you realize that you can afford to not have a job with benefits? Being terrified of being laid off but still getting a pay check is way better than not having the stress of layoffs while being terrified you don't know how you are going to pay your rent/mortgage and you are wondering where your next meal is coming from.

@a5 nothing is misspelled but there is misuse of punctuation and errors in grammar.

Hoping to be laid off by Oracle is foolish thinking. Because most of the people here who hoped, like yourself and do get laid off by Oracle will be shocked when they realize how tough finding an equivalent paying job will be. The job market is not to good right now.
