Heard a rumor that this restructuring led to somewhere near 50 people getting title changes like “soft demotions“ and it’s in these people didn’t even lose their salary but they’re going to be asked to train others on what they do and then demote them further (with pay cut) or eliminate them by end of Q4

@c8 here is what I hear. Director demoted to Sr Manager seems to be less knowledgeable and ineffective than Sr Manager those are demoted to IC. Those IC are the one driving that team. Hope that will be evaluated soon.
@gn Laid of 12 months after demotion.
@c8 how long between cycles? was it like 6 months, 12 months?
@c2 I know personally 4 IC and 1 SM who are at the top of their pay range who got layoff in the last round
I know of a Sr. Manager who got demoted to Individual Contributor (choice was IC or quit) in one layoff cycle and then later laid off in another cycle.
They apparently try to get you to quit by demoting you, and if you're stubborn enough, they'll keep you around as a priority layoff target.
@c2 Just assume the worst. That’s what these people have earned.
I heard they stack ranked all the directors/managers. Some roles were eliminated, but some managers, where there were duplicate managers, remained and the lesser in the stack was given a choice of being demoted or laid off. Including employees with 20 plus years of tribal knowledge. I also heard they laid off IC ‘s who were at the top of their pay range, and kept the IC who were at the bottom. Who knows if any of that is true?
This TMO bus is being driven off a cliff! If you were asked to get off be thankful. If you were kept on like me, what difference does it make who they seat you next to. That's how I see it. It's going down for real.
