Need some advice I’m
Planning on going on short term disability due to treatment needed I know my role is safe up to 12 weeks for FMLA how about if my short term is extended to another 12 weeks , I understand I may not be paid but whatever about the benefits like my medical dental etc do I get it keep those and pay my current share of cost per usual

So go look it up on our company site. This isn’t the place for that information. You’re about to get a LOT of bad information. Especially when you’re exact answer is clearly spelled on on hr site

I knew someone that was out 12 weeks for major back surgery and was impacted during her leave.

Some of these questions really make no sense for this post. This is such a simple conversation with your boss / Employee relations / HRBP / FMLA coordinator.

As others have said, FMLA does not protect against layoffs or terminations for poor performance/misconduct, it only prevents employers from firing you due to your medical leave. The go/totalrewards site lays out the details of the STD/LTD leave.

No role is safe under FMLA. Company can easily give you a severance and let you go at will. Don’t have an expectation that you would come back to your job after FMLA/STD.
